Why You Need An AED
Did you know that every 40 seconds, someone in the United States has a heart attack? If they are left untreated this can lead to cardiac arrest, where their heart stops beating or beats too ineffectively to circulate blood to the brain and other vital organs. About 360,000 people experience out-of-hospital cardiac arrests (OHCA) in the United States. Approximately 70-90% of individuals with OHCA die even before reaching the hospital. Wouldn’t you want to know how to save a life and help lower this statistic? The answer is easier than you think and all you really need to remember is three simple letters A, E, and D. The use of an AED accompanied by CPR dramatically helps to increase the number of survivors.
What is an AED?
An Automated External Defibrillator (AED) is a portable device that analyzes a victim’s heart rhythm and sends an electrical shock in order to restore a normal heart rhythm.
Why do I need an AED in my office, church, or school?
The average response time for Emergency Medical Services (EMS) in the United States is between 8-14. For every minute that a victim experiencing a heart attack or cardiac arrest goes without advanced medical care (including an AED), their chances of survival drops by 10%. This means that 5 minutes without an AED and advanced medical care equals a 50% less chance of survival, and 50% great chance of irreversible brain damage or death.
Seconds can be the difference between life and death for a family member, coworker or friend.
How hard is to operate an AED?
An AED can be easily utilized in all emergency situations, and the unit itself will help to guide you through every step of process. The preferred unit for Premier Aquatics is the Zoll AED, which uses audio and visual prompts to help you give effective care by providing live corrective feedback, including compression rate and depth feedback, to you the rescuer, while you give care.
Where do I get trained to use an AED?
Although it is very easy to use an AED, you must go through brief training to familiarize yourself with how it works and when to use it. Training can be taken by signing up for a combination CPR/AED class through Premier Aquatics. Remember, to provide the most effective care, you must utilize the AED in conjunction with CPR. To sign up for a CPR/AED class, simply click HERE to find the most convenient location and course day/time for you.
Where do I purchase an AED?
To purchase an AED, you simply need to go to the Zoll AED page on the Premier Aquatics website. By filling out the form on the page, you will be speaking with one of team members within one business day.
